Finishing a LEGO city street: signs that sell the scene
You can build a gorgeous row of modulars and still feel that something is missing. Usually it is the road itself doing the talking. A real street is covered in small instructions, and your eye reads them without noticing, which is exactly why a scene without them feels staged.
Start at the junction, because that is where a street explains itself. A give way or a STOP, a No Entry down the side road, a speed limit as the street opens up. Add street name plates at the corners, the single most convincing detail and the one most builds leave out. Then the human layer: a bus stop flag, a pay-and-display, a brown tourist sign pointing at something just off the edge of the build. Finish with a working set of traffic lights, and suddenly the road has direction and flow.

The trick is restraint. A real street does not shout, it just quietly tells you the rules, so place a few well rather than covering every kerb.
