Four sets, one street. Someone joined them up overnight.
Most LEGO Christmas village displays start the same way: a row of seasonal sets on a sideboard, each one lovely, none of them talking to each other. What turns a row of sets into a village is everything between them. Here are five ways to join it up, and none of them means buying another set.
Run a street through the middle
A display reads as a row of boxes until a road runs through it. Lay a strip of tiled road along the front, add a pavement, and give it at least one junction. Then sign it like a real road. A stop sign, a 30 limit and a street name plate tell the eye this is a place people drive through. Our Snowy Road Signs sheet has 84 of them with snow resting on top, so the signs match the season.
Put names in the gaps
Between two sets there is always a gap that looks unfinished. Fill it with a simple shop front built from bricks you already have, then give it a name. A toy shop, a sweet shop, a stall selling hot chestnuts. Nine lettered shop and stall signs come on the Christmas Village sheet, including Tinker’s Toys and Sugarplum Sweets, each sized for a 2×4 tile.
Give the train somewhere to stop
If a train runs round your display, it needs a reason to slow down. A short platform, a bench and a poster on the wall are enough. Put up the Santa Special steam train poster where the passengers would wait, and suddenly the train has a timetable.
Turn the detail towards the room
A display is seen from one side, usually from the sofa. So put the posters where they face the room: carol singers on the bus shelter, the panto on the side of the hall, Santa’s grotto by the station. Set them at minifigure eye level, then move the big Christmas Market board to the front edge, where nobody can miss it.
Pack it away with the sets
Put every sticker on a spare tile rather than on the sets themselves. In January the tiles go into the box with the set they belong to, and next December the whole town comes out finished. Your sets stay exactly as they were built.
The Christmas Village sheet has 47 stickers for the shops, the posters and the market, and the bundle pairs it with the snowy road signs for £17.50. You cut them out yourself, so you choose what goes where. If you would rather give a street you have already built its winter version, our Christmas MOC ideas post shows how.
